Sony D-EJ756CK CD Walkman Portable Compact Disk Player Review

Sony D-EJ756CK CD Walkman Portable Compact Disk PlayerThe CD has many things going for it but there is one very nagging aspect that couldn't allow me to give it a full 5 stars. For all this CD player has going for it, again, one aspect in the design had me wonder just what the heck Sony was thinking when they did this. You'll see what I'm talking about below.
Pros:
- Sound: The Player has a good sound system. Each volume level has about three settings each, totaling nine levels in all. Meaning if you are at volume 1, you can increase the volume three times before it goes towards it's next volume level of 2. So for each volume level your on, it can be increase further to your preferred settings. But honestly, most people won't tell the difference cause most of us jam the volume up towards the maximum by default. There is also a nice feature included here which allows the volumes to be placed at a low standard settings of 3 and below. I believe this was put in just in case one needed to quickly lower the volume from it's high setting to low instead of holding the volume button all down until it was low or turning the player off instead. But Sony says it's for ear protection. There is also a bass settings that allows you to control it via two simple settings. But the way the sound quality on this player is, you won't even need it unless you really wanna kill your ear drums.
-Size: The size of this player is very nice and compact. It easily fits into an average pocket and bag without much of a fuss of being big and clunky. You can palm it in the palm of your hand for goodness sakes. Small size with good sound quality? Isn't that what your here looking for?
-Features: Well, other than having the ability to play CD-R/RW cd's flawlessly, there's not that much to this category.
-Accessories: This player comes packed with standard car kit accessories of a tape and battery adapter and a regular AC adapter. But it does come with a nice extras with the average driver in mind. Included with the player is a small knob shaped remote that connects where the headphone would go. This adapter allows you to fast forward and rewind by turning it in the proper direction as well as stop the CD player and move back and forward through song selections all without having to take your eye off the road to see where you are on the player. Oh yeah, don't be fooled by the picture of this CD that you see above. Those flip back headphones DO NOT come with the player. The player includes standard headphone that, surprisingly, are very good. Also to be noted is that this player doesn't come with batteries. The player can use rechargeable metal nickel hydrate, A.K.A Ni-MH, batteries. It can even charge them for you by using the AC adapter as a power source. But one thing here is that Sony advises that you only use THEIR brand of rechargeable Ni-MH batteries for the recharging feature. I don't know if this is a ploy for sales or that the player is not configured to charge those of another brand (which doesn't make sense since the recharging process is no different). I'd say as for recharging the batteries people, do so at your own risk.
Design 1: The Design of this player is nice, sleek easy to get to buttons with no fuss in trying to find things while jogging or in the dark. This player if very sturdy. Virtually NO SKIPPING AT ALL. I played the CD upside down and moving the player left, right, and sideways and no fluxtuation in the sound occurred. This player is built right. BUT....
Cons:
-Design 2: ....Sony's choice for where you put the batteries to power the player is absurd!!! The battery compartment is actually located INSIDE THE CD PLAYER!!! That's right, right were you put your CD's in. Right under the lid!!! This is the most dumbest thing I've ever seen. Most battery compartments are either located on the side or on the bottom of the CD players, but this player has you putting the batteries under the CD lid. And UNDER THE CD ITSELF!!! Now, let's look at this logically. Your batteries run out of power, what do you do? Replace them by going through a quick two step process: 1) open battery compartment, take out old batteries 2) put in new batteries and close battery compartment. Simple! For this player you have to 1) Open the lid, TAKE OUT YOUR CD!!! 2) Open battery compartment and take out the old ones 3) Replace with new batteries, close the lid 4) Put the CD back in, close the lid, then press play! This is so dang ridiculous I had to laugh when I seen this for the first time. How are people who are walking on the street or jogging have the time to go through this long process, which has you actually taking out the CD every time you want to change your batteries. Meaning you'd have to actually stop walking cause I doubt you'd want to drop your cd which you'll have to either hold with your other hand or between your fingers. And to make matters worse, but not too worse, the anti-shock/skip button is located here also. What makes that not so bad is cause well the CD comes with the anti-shock on the "on" setting by default. I mean who wants to listen to skipped music and have to go back and forth inside the CD lid all the time.
Conclusion: What? You still here? You've got a player that:
1) Has good sound
2) Plays CD-R/RW CD's
3) Won't Skip
4) Comes with nice Accessories
5) And Will last you a while.
Your search is over. Just buy and be happy.

Walkman Car Connecting Pack for MD Walkman and CD Walkman (Model# CPA-9C) Review

Walkman Car Connecting Pack for MD Walkman and CD WalkmanI originally purchased this cassette adapter to listen to CD's in my Neon which did not have a CD player. This served its purpose well- great sound quality, the cassette was not loud in the cassette deck as a previous one had been, and I was finally able to listen to CD's in my car during the commute.
Eight months ago, I traded in the Neon for a Jetta which had both a CD and cassette player, so the cassette adapter wound up collecting dust along with my old cell phone and other assorted items in my electronics graveyard. But this week I purchased an iPod, and I also got an iRock FM transmitter to listen to my MP3's at work and during the commute.Unfortunately that is not the best product in the world.I contemplated exchanging the iRock for a Belkin FM transmitter, when it was suggested to me that I try a car cassette adapter.I dug through the electronics graveyard, and almost thought I had thrown this out when I found it.I plugged it into the headphone jack of the iPod, then played the cassette on my stereo. The sound quality is excellent on this as well.
This is an excellent product if you have a car with only a cassette player, and want to listen to CDs, or if you have an iPod and want to listen to MP3's cheaply and easily.
A piece of advice, though for those who need the adapter for their CD player: you may want to opt instead for an actual car pack, which has a cigarette lighter adapter for the CD player, otherwise you'll be burning through the batteries like crazy.

Product Description:
The Sony CPA-9C cassette adaptor allows you to connect your minidisc or CD player to a vehicle cassette player. While this Sony product works best with Sony CD and MD players, the adaptor will operate with non-Sony products as well. There are a couple of key features to this adaptor which make it a fine choice. The first notable feature is the spring-loaded head. The head will automatically adjust itself to your vehicle's cassette deck, ensuring that the two heads have optimum contact and transfer the best possible sound. The second key feature is the silent mechanism. A silent mechanism yields less operational noise and a better quality MD or CD sound. This adaptor works with all cassette players which require you to insert the tape opening facing the side. The mini-plug inserts into a portable CD or MD headphone jack. The cassette adaptor is a cheap way to make your vehicle CD and MD operational.

GPX PC308B Portable CD Player with 60 Second Anti-Skip Protection (Black) Review

GPX PC308B Portable CD Player with 60 Second Anti-Skip ProtectionBought a CD player, of another brand, locally, it didn't work at all right out of the box so returned it. Came to amazon and read the reviews of the CD players they carry and was not really impressed with most of them, this one had the best of reviews so I ordered it and it worked like a charm right out of the box. Unfortunately due to my own clumsy handling of the product I happen to drop it 5 times in a 2 day period, 2 of the drops really hard.
The hinge for the top broke on the second hard fall and I thought that I had seen the end of this great little thing----BUT NO--I pushed the play button and it went right on playing as if nothing had happened. It is still playing a week later flawlessly. I ordered a new one which arrived yesterday but haven't unpacked it yet,I am hoping that it is as good as the poor thing that I tried so hard to kill.

Incredible track record for something so abused, I take much better care of it now..love this little machine.

Sony D-NS505 S2 Sports ATRAC Walkman Portable CD Player Review

Sony D-NS505 S2 Sports ATRAC Walkman Portable CD PlayerQuick summary:if you are looking for something to work out with, this player is great. If you are looking for something for your car or commute, it is terrible.

I'm very unhappy with my purchase for purely practical reasons, but everything works and has nice sound quality, so I can't really complain and return the player. The various reviews praising battery life and sound quality as great are correct.I have not tried the MP3 functions of the player yet.

You can't really tell in the picture up there, but the player has a large handstrap over the top of the player. This handstrap, to the best of my inspection, cannot be removed - it houses the 'screen' and playback (random, repeat, MP3 folders) options. The handstrap essentially doubles the size of the CD player. It *is* very nice if you are walking along with the player, but will not fit comfortable in a purse or backpack pocket.

I also find CD loading awkward. The bottom of the player opens with a twist and the CD is held against the body of the discman.Again, excellent for jogging.Plays as well upside down as it does on its side or right-side up.However, this means that you cannot eject or load CDs with one hand (I like to change CDs without breaking pace when walking home). The twisting mechanism makes me nervous about it's lifetime and I'm not entirely comfortable jamming or unjamming my CDs into the player.

So, I basically should have bought a $30 player that would have fit in my purse, have a spring mechanism to open, and probably equal sound quality. If you want this for sports, go for it.Else, find another player.

Product Description:
Spin your commercial CDs, your homemade music CDs of almost any stripe with Sony's versatile, full-circle D-NS505 S2 Sports-styled Walkman portable CD player. Designed for rugged outdoor use, the player features active control playback operation so you can make changes to your program literally while you're on the run. Sony's "h.ear" clip-on headphones are designed for streamlined comfort.
Skip-Free G-Protection technology boosts the laser pickup's shock protection to minimize read errors that would otherwise interrupt your music, providing quick recovery from both horizontal and vertical shocks. The D-NS505's water-resistant body and heat-resistant lid helps protect it against the elements, with rubber gaskets, bushings, and splash-resistant seals that help keep out water, moisture, and dirt.
Playback options include 32-track programming, repeat (track, disc, or program), random play, and--thanks to Sony's great work in DSP efficiency--more than 75 hours of ATRAC3plus CD or more than 50 hours of audio CD playback from 2 AA batteries (not included).
The D-NS505's 2-line dot-matrix display is built right into its handstrap, offering full ID3 tag recognition, and bookmark playback (which lets you program your favorite songs from multiple CDs and play them back at the touch of a button). CD Text support displays artist and title information with compatible commercial audio CDs.
The player comes bundled with Sony's SonicStage CD Simple Burner software. Compatible with ID3 tagging and most CD burners, this application transfers songs from CDs or MP3 music files from your PC's hard drive and burns them to recordable CDs using ATRAC3plus compression.
ATRAC3plus is a high-quality audio-compression technology that reduces the size of digital audio files while preserving much of a track's original sound quality (similar in concept to MP3 or Dolby Digital sound formats). With ATRAC3plus, music can be burned and compressed at 132, 105, 66, 64, or even 48 kbps (kilobits per second), letting you select the right balance between fidelity and storage space (you'll get around 490 songs per disc at 48 kbps).
Digital Mega Bass Sound boosts your music's low end without high clarity and low distortion, and there's also a built-in equalizer with 3 preset curves and 1 customizable setting. Sony's automatic volume limiter system (AVLS) conserves batteries--and guards your hearing--by capping your listening level at either of two settings. You can hook the player up with your home system through an optional analog stereo "Y" interconnect.
The player also works with an optional AC/DC 4.5V power adapter (AC-E45HG or -E45A).

Sony D-EJ011 CD Walkman Portable Compact Disc Player - Pink Review

Sony D-EJ011 CD Walkman Portable Compact Disc Player - PinkIn a world of MP3 players, there are fewer and fewer selections of CD walkmans. MP3 compresses the music and there is a loss in quality, and when I found this simple CD player at a budget price, I got it, and found that the sound reproduction was good. I did not like the earphone it came with, and got a better pair of headphones to pair with this player, and it was great!

This is a very simple and basic player, so nothing complicated. It does not play MP3 files, but will play CDs duplicated to CD-R or CD-RW discs.

I do not find the AVLS useful as I find it too soft, but the anti-shake and bass-boost are good features to have for a budget player.

Tune Belt Original CD Player Carrier CD1 - Belt pack ( for CD player ) - neoprene Review

Tune Belt Original CD Player Carrier CD1 - Belt pack - neopreneI have been listening to books on cassette or CD on portable listening devices and Tune Belt has been the answer for portability. My library has a wonderful collection of books on tape and I have many activities that keep me moving around the house, the yard or the neighborhood. I can't tell you how much easier it makes those mundane chores of life easier with a companion to divert the mind from the repetitive actions of life.
I tell my friends I am probably the "best read" person they know and it is all thanks to the Tune Belt. I put my cassette player, a couple of extra tapes and an extra set or rechargeable batteries in the pouch and I am off for a walk, a weeding session or a long boring drive. No my headphones are not noise suppressing, so I can hear what is going on around me. I chose the CD version because it holds those extra tapes and batteries. I found my portable CD player used batteries twice as fast as my cassette player, so I just made sure I was getting books on tape. This is the second Tune Belt I have owned. I literally wore the first one out. Hint- When carrying extra batteries be sure you have a rubber band to keep then together or you may spend some time looking for a missing battery in the grass.

Sony D-E356CK Walkman CD Player with Car Kit Review

Sony D-E356CK Walkman CD Player with Car KitI actually picked this player up on a whim as I needed something to keep me entertained for a 48 hour bus trip.
Some of the good features I found in this machine were.
1) I've found the player to be quite good with anti-skip no matter where I go. I don't even have the ESPMax on most of the time and I still get very few pops and skips while going down bumpy roads or just walking briskly.
2) The sound quality on it isn't all that bad, the headphones that the kit supplies are workable and fairly comfortable.
3) The battery life on it is quite lengthy if you're just using the bare minimum settings. (No ESP on or bass on) I only had to change the batteries during my bus trip once.
4) Love that hold feature, I can stuff the deck in my pocket and not worry about the volume cranking itself up on me.
5) Resume feature is a plus, saves having to find another button on the deck.
6) Decently Built. I've stupidly managed to drop the player on solid floors two or three times and the machine hasn't [burned] out on me yet. Although I find there's an increased lag when the machine is checking for a disc.
Some Not So Good Features
1) Lack of a real "search" function. I like to skip through parts of the songs so I can get to one particular point. A little frustrating.
2) No backlit LCD, makes it hard to tell if you're on the right song.
3) The sound quality I found when plugged up to the car adapter degraded a little but that could be because of the stereo system in the car itself.
4) Resume feature can be frustrating in that if you want to start the song from the beginning you gotta go on the hunt for another button or if you accidentally open the player it resets itself so to speak.
All in all, the player has been treating me fairly good, I was most impressed with the quality and the price that I paid for it.

The Walkman achieves up to 33 hours of continuous playback on two "AA" type batteries (not included).

Sony D-FJ200 Walkman Portable CD Player with Digital AM / FM / TV / Weather Tuner Review

Sony D-FJ200 Walkman Portable CD Player with Digital AM / FM / TV / Weather TunerSome of the reviews here sound like they were churned out by David Manning-like frauds. Anyway, this is Sony's best cd walkman in awhile. Their previous premium model, the D-FJ787 was a piece of junk because the tuning and playback controls could only be accessed using an external, wired remote control you had to plug your headphones into to listen - resulting in a MESS of wires. Fortunately Sony moved the controls back onto the player and I must say, they are creatively placed on rings around the center of the lid's face. The only thing I don't like about this player is the digital display: it does not give you an accurate seconds playback (off by a second). A minor complaint but it shouldn't deter you from picking one of these up.

Sony's Skip-Free G-Protection boosts the laser pickup's shock protection to minimize read errors that would otherwise interrupt your music, providing quick recovery from both horizontal and vertical shocks. The D-FJ200's heat-resistant lid helps protect the player against high-temperature build up, especially when you're using it outdoors or in a vehicle.

Sony DSJ15 Portable CD Walkman Review

Sony DSJ15 Portable CD WalkmanExtremely durable, won't skip, long battery life, not the best sound. Buy it cheap, and use it for the beach. I've had mine submerged in water many times. I like the way the headphones fit. Great for active lifestyles.

This player comes with a hand strap and compact in-the-ear headband headphones. CD features include 64-track programming, nine playback modes (variations on repeat and shuffle) and track loop repeat. Sony says this machine will milk up to 32 hours of continuous playback time from two AA batteries. Sony CDCASE4 Atrac CD Walkman Carrying Case Review

Sony CDCASE4 Atrac CD Walkman Carrying CaseDO NOT BUY THIS CASE....I repeat DO NOT BUY IT. Get it only if it is free when you buy the CD Player, as it is a terribly designed product, not worth paying $15.
I got my Sony DNF-400 CD Player today along with this case. I have not yet been able to insert the CD Player into it, as it such a tight fit. I gave up after trying to squeeze it, as I did not want to scratch my spanking new CD Player. On top of that the people who designed it, thought that folks would never want to changed the track or adust the volume. It has an opening for the Display, but no opening for the buttons. The volume button is also hidden under the zipper.
What good is a case like this and I am shocked that Sony would make such a thing, it is not like cheap case that I brought from the sidewalk. This is made by the manufacturer of the CD Player and it is not compatible with it's design.

Sony D-NF340 CD Walkman & MP3 Player w/FM Tuner Review

Sony D-NF340 CD Walkman & MP3 Player w/FM TunerAfter searching the net for a day, this was the best CD player I could find. I bought the unit as a backup for my (still functioning well) Sony DNF-430, a unit I'm in love with but I am concerned that when it eventually dies (as we all must), there will no longer be a decent standard CD player at all.

This unit seems to be the successor to the 430. Several improvements have been made over the 430:
It uses 2 batteries instead of 1 for longer play between battery swaps
The controls are much better -- transport function controls that were twitchy on the 430 are larger and better laid out
The remote is easier to use, and the controls are laid out identically to those on the top of the player
It "remembers" where you left off playing a CD and starts from there after being stopped OR (new) even after the door has been opened
The display is much easier to read, especially from an angle
The case seems more solid
The price has been substantially reduced

On the downside vs 430:
Maximum volume not quite as loud as the 430, and very high or very low frequencies are not rendered quite as well
The weather, AM radio, and analog TV receivers have been dropped (doubt many used these functions)
The LCD readout of song titles and artists on regular CDs is gone
No ATRACS (Sony's old compression scheme that had no real advantage over MP3s)
The parametric equalizer is gone (really only useful with low quality headphones)
The body is noticably heavier and larger both in thickness and diameter
The transport buttons are much easier to accidentally press when carrying it about as a portable (use the "hold" button underneath to prevent this).
The remote connector has changed, so only the remote that comes with the unit may be used
Cheezy earbuds and a car cassette adaptor are no longer included

Like the DNF430, the transport mechanism is a bit noisy, although no louder than the sound leakage you would get with good open-air headphones (recommended). No AC power adaptor is included, but there is provision for plugging in separately purchased 4.5 volt AC or car DC adaptor. And opening the lid to change CDs is still a bit awkward. The anti-skip mechanism still works flawlessly.

The important thing, the reason for the five stars, is the sound quality. While sonically not quite up to the DNF430, you still can plug in a pair of good headphones like the Grado SR80 and you've got yourself a personal sound system that rivals a good home theater setup. Other reviewers have spoken of "muddy sound" and "hiss"; I can detect none such. The low distortion and high frequency range does reveal flaws in source material that are not evident when that material is played on a lesser unit. On the other hand, I have heard distinct background playing (eg., a trumpet way down in the mix of a Grateful Dead song, the sound of a pick against guitar strings) I'd never heard on lesser players. When playing big band or orchestra CDs, it individuates instruments so you hear each distinctly instead of a single smear of orchesteral sound. This all refers to standard CD's. I do not use the FM or MP3 features. If you care about good sound, you realize that MP3 compression degrades sound.

Bottom line: for car or personal listening of standard or burned CDs while not too active, this is a wonderful device. While the size, weight, and easily triggered controls make it less than ideal for physically active listening (I still listen to my hearty old Panasonic while working in the garden), it is still quite serviceable in that mode.

I think Sony made a lot of sensible design decisions here, and I hope they sell enough of these to make it worthwhile to keep manufacturing them.

Sony D-FJ041 CD Walkman Portable CD Player with AM/FM Tuner Review

Sony D-FJ041 CD Walkman Portable CD Player with AM/FM TunerThis Walkman by Sony offers music lovers the opportunity to listen to music files stored on a CD-R, a regular CD (of course), a CD-RW--AND there's even a digital AM and FM radio tuner! While this lacks certain features that a music aficionado might want (like the ATRAC system that some CD players have), this Walkman is really a very good choice for most people including myself. I have more than one Walkman but this is the one I use most often for when I am "on the go;" it's the one I don't mind if it accidentally gets a little bit banged up over time.

You can preset up to twenty FM stations and you can preset up to 10 AM stations--but this won't pick up AM stations very well unless they're located relatively close to where you are. However, that's still good for this price range. This Walkman uses two AA batteries and you get a good amount of play time out of the batteries if you pick good ones. It weighs barely more than seven ounces--great!

At first glance the controls on the Walkman itself appear slightly confusing but after about five minutes tops you learn all the important and most commonly used functions. The controls also make it easy to do basic things such as adjusting the sound, starting a CD and stopping it. The instruction manual is fairly clear as well. The Walkman does have "playback modes" but I rarely use them so I can't comment on that.

Unfortunately, I noticed some disappointments. The controls are rather small so you need to be careful of how you touch them with your fingers. Finally, this type of ear phone set hurts my ears almost from the very start of listening to a CD on this Walkman. I strongly suggest you purchase a better quality headset or earphones that will be more comfortable. (I have to take off one star for that--sorry!)

Overall, music lovers will be very pleased with this affordable Walkman. The features work reliably. The quality of the sound is excellent; and it can handle quite a few presets for different radio stations.

Sony DEJ011 CD Walkman« Portable CD Player Review

Sony DEJ011 CD Walkman« Portable CD PlayerThis is one of the best CD players I've used.I listen to a lot of Books on Tape and this player picks up exactly where you leave off even if you stop it to do something else for awhile. It's fairly good about playing scratched CDs and has not jumped while I have been working out in the yard or walking with it.The ear phones are OK but get bit irritating after wearing them for a time.If you are looking for a good CD portable player without the radio, this is it.It is pretty light on battery use also.
