Sony D-EJ106CK Walkman Portable CD Player with Car Kit (Silver) Review

Sony D-EJ106CK Walkman Portable CD Player with Car KitI've owned Sony Walkman CD players in the past that were really good and performed well in my car. When my last unit started to have some problems, I immediate bought another Sony, assuming equally good functionality.NOT.This unit has no backlight - try to change tracks in the dark car.The BIGGEST problem for me is that there is no "resume" function as in past units and no way to retain settings. When you disconnect the power source (as in shutting off the car) you lose volume settings and track settings so the unit always goes back to track 1 as opposed to resuming where you left off. There's an annoying beep if you change from one track to another also. You can turn that off but then when you shut your car off, the setting is lost and you have to reset the "beep off" setting. Lastly, the unit is hard to open. Not a problem if you're using it on a walk but a big problem if you're trying to change CDs at a stop light in your car or trying to do it in the dark. While the anti-skip protection is great and the sound is reasonably good, there just have to be better buys out there.

Product Description:
With Sony's full-circle D-EJ106CK you get not only great sound and extensive features but a complete car-listening kit, as well, including audio and power adapters and an in-car remote. And at a stunning .625 inches thick, this Walkman nevertheless lives up to its name, traveling with equal ease in your pocket, purse, or backpack. Playback options include 32-track programming, repeat (track, disc, or program), random play, and an amazing 50 hours of playback from a pair of standard AA batteries (not included).
"Active use" is a key phrase for this player: Sony's Skip-Free G-Protection boosts the laser pickup's shock protection to minimize read errors that would otherwise interrupt your music, providing quick recovery from both horizontal and vertical shocks. The D-EJ106CK's heat-resistant lid helps protect the player against high-temperature build up, especially when you're using it outdoors or in a vehicle.
You can hook the player up with your home system through an optional analog stereo "Y" interconnect, using the supplied AC/DC power adapter to conserve batteries when you're indoors. Should your music require it, the Walkman's Digital Mega Bass Sound engages digital processing to enhance your music with deep, authentic bass tones.
Bookmark playback lets you program your favorite songs from multiple CDs and play them back at the touch of a button, and Sony's automatic volume limiter system (AVLS) conserves batteries--and guards your hearing--by capping your listening level at either of two settings.
What's in the Box
